The Pressure is ON

Hey Nancy, hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving, I know I have with all the food and shopping. A lot happened this year and there are a lot to look forward to in 2015 such as the Avengers, Pitch Perfect 2 and of course our graduation. There is something else that we should an eye on going into 2015, seeing that it has to do with the nature of our blog.

The Federal Communication Commission (FCC) has declared that they will not vote on new net neutrality rules until 2015. The main reason for this delay is due to the fact that there’s pressure from both sides of the spectrum. With President Obama on one hand pleading to prevent fast lanes and having equal access for everyone. On the other hand, there are the big internet providers like Comcast (man we’re always mentioning Comcast almost every week), Verizon, etc. pressuring the FCC to make rules that would be in their favor. These internet providers feared that with net neutrality regulations, their investors would be discourage from funding internet related projects.

Waiting until 2015 to vote on the new rules is a good thing and a bad thing. The good thing is that it gives the FCC more time to come up with rules and regulations that is in the middle ground of what both sides want. The bad thing is that, it also gives both parties time to pressure the FCC even more. With the Republicans taking over Congress, that will be another problem with the FCC seeing that some if not most of the Republicans does not support net neutrality.
